The Magic…
I want the paint I use to be as alive as the life I recreate on my canvas. I have developed a medium that combines the versatility of modern synthetics with the luminescence of Renaissance paintings. I use techniques of the Old Masters to express the timeless mysteries of the soul. Using a landscape knowledge of light in my still lives, I build depths of dark transparencies. Objects emerge from the special ether of shadow, expressing cosmic form. My subjects are groups--objects, people, trees, mountains, waves. The arrangements I make or discover demonstrate the impact we have on one another. Even a single object set against space demonstrates a relationship. Magic is performed on a flat canvas by communicating the atmosphere around a subject. This special magic transforms the photorealist’s perfect detail into mystery and soul. No matter how many dimensions man discovers, we find ourselves attracted, repelled, twirling and swirling through space with everyone and everything. My works depict moments, elusive and peaceful, in the spinning vortex of our lives.
